China Energy has launched the Shuaibah Solar Power Plant in Jeddah, establishing it as the Middle East’s largest solar facility with a capacity of 2.6 GW, according to China Energy.

The village, located about 30 miles northwest of Riyadh, had no electric supply at the time. The station is operated by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. [pdf] With a total investment value of approximately $8.3 billion (more than SAR 31 billion), the seven new projects aim to generate a combined capacity of 15,000 MW (12,000 MW solar PV and 3000 MW wind energy).
